I know a couple guys who got into that in the 90's, post military service.

They seem to have done pretty well, me personally I couldn't muster up the passion to do that kind of thing, I would have preferred my own startup business rather than cookie-cutter someone else's idea.

I also understand that the big companies have tightened the screws a bit since my buddies got involved, basically constraining the upside to the franchisee. Of course there's no limit on downside.

I assume it would matter greatly which outfit you were dealing with, maybe an up and coming brand would offer more long-term upside, opportunity to add more stores, etc,
