The guy on 01L was either in position and/or cleared for takeoff right after you were.
This isn't some unusual day at SFO, it's Ground Hog Day 12,682+ 95% of the time.
Having a BASIC concept of what you're going to fly on departure isn't some advanced skill...especially if there's a guy chasing you on your left.
