FedEx win despite Abdeen

27 May 2008

UMM AL QUWAIN — Abdeen’s century went in vain as his team, ETA Ascon, lost to FedEx by six wickets in the final of the Third UAQ Corporate Cricket tournament for ‘B’ division teams organised by Kashmir cricket Club at Umm Al Quwain grounds, a Press release said.

Abdeen scored 142 from 75 deliveries and hit 17 fours and three sixes to help ETA Ascon put on 234 runs after electing to bat. However, the total was not enough to defend as their rivals, FedEx, reached the target with seven balls to spare.

Abdeen hit the FedEx bowlers all over the field during his century. He was supported by Patil who made 34 and Shafqat Ali who contributed 27 from 21 balls with the help of one boundary and two sixes. Patil faced 30 balls during his stay and the crease and scored one four and one six. Amjad Ali chipped in with 11 off 10 balls and hit two sixes and one four as ETA Ascon lost six wickets to reach 234 in the allotted 25 overs.

Chanday and Yasir bagged two wickets each with the former giving away 54 runs and the latter conceding 43 runs.

FedEx started their reply in earnest, determined to reach the victory target. Jarnail Singh was FedEx’s top scorer with 80 made from 36 balls and hit three sixes and reached the ropes 11 times.

Sohail Singh was another FedEx batsman to reach half century when he made 59 from 39 balls and hit five fours and two sixes.

Hari Prasad scored a breezy 29 from 17 balls and reached the boundary once and over it twice.

Harish (34 not out) and Tariq (nine not out) saw their team home in the 24th over.

Sajid Hussain and Tariq Bashir were the umpires for the final.

Abdeen claimed two wickets for 28 runs while Amjad Ali and Tanveer picked up one each conceding 37 and 41 runs respectively.
