I truly understand your disappointment in this news. But since it does benefit the pilots of UPS, what else were you expecting their union to say? "SAD NEWS, ASTAR and ABX COULD POSSIBLY GO UNDER IF THEIR MANAGEMENT CAN'T FIND THEM NEW LINES OF BUSINESS"?
In my judgment you are way too premature to surmise that Astar and ABX will be put out of business anyway.
Actually, neither Astar or ABX were "contractors" as you so elegantly put it, till the Germans bought DHL and ABX. We both were the airline for DHL/ABX respectively. With scope clauses, till the spinoffs. Pilots eat their own.
