yup, i got numbers mixed up, typed up when i was busy. At 191 airplanes - 14 per plane that would put us around 2600-2700 pilots. 12.5 would put us at 2300-2400.
if we keep 14 per plane I think hiring will resume this year. If they decide to try to drop pilot to plane ratio hiring probably won’t start until 2026.
also, no one except actual decision makers at airlines having any clue on what the future holds at these companies. No middle management has any better idea of a merger of liquidation than we do. So yah, we are all fools reading tea leaves.
Spirit has 195 now and will have 196 year end. No deliveries in 26/27.
Currently about 40 parked for engine issues and that number parked will remain the same through the end of 2026 as they rotate all the engines through the shop, then in 27 start to return back to normal.
So really need to base the next years pilot requirements on 150-155 airplanes.
Attrition will pick up end of August through the fall, and probably beginning of next year.. May help.
