Most of what the union asked is reasonable. If as you say it would not pass with CBI still in then anything much lower than what is in the unions pass would not pass either.
I think current CBI solver can be whatever management wants it to be because they can recode it whenever and however they want. Don’t forget just a few years ago there hundreds of pilots forced to reserve while a jr pilot got a line and the arbitrator said it was not a contract violation. Now management has chosen not to do that recently because they’re pretending to play nice but they could start doing that again whenever they want.

It would be a monumental mistake to think “uh, schedules kinda suck but they’re not too bad, let’s just stick with CBI.” Because CBI can be programmed to do whatever the company wants.

But the Bloch award they’ll say, it protects my seniority. Well it doesn’t protect your seniority when you wanted a line, bud deep enough to get a line, but a jr pilot took your line because scheduling dept needed “high fly lines” and you were only in the “middle” of the LCW.

You might be right, maybe CBI could get ratified. But it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a huge mistake to put that kind of trust in management. They’ve done it multiple times and they’ll do it again. We are overstaffed so they don’t need to and they’re trying to play nice. But we’ve had several arbitrations about CBI and management has won them all except Bloch. And all Bloch got us was sequential bids.

Management can still jack up the MWDs whenever they want. Change the coding for solving bottom up, second solve, LCW buffers, low/med/high, force reserve to senior pilots, etc whenever they want because they control CBI entirely. There’s no manual, logic rules, etc to rely on. It is whatever management wants it to be and with “management rights” destroying us with GOM revisions, eliminating pos contact, etc don’t think for a second coding changes and “new updates” to solver logic won’t be justified under management rights.

as for the stuff about NK and F9, I’m not implying we don’t deserve it or that union shouldn’t ask for it. Unterseher even said it’s not last best final. I said we are years apart precisely because ULCCs, including us are struggling, which is why management won’t agree to that stuff absent a release. Even if management could afford the stock price would drop a min of 10-20% once those rates were made public so management will drag this out as long as possible for that reason alone.

Side note: I’m shocked they released executive summary this to the membership. That is very unorthodox in negotiations to publicize the union’s very first comprehensive wishlist. Unterseher is clearly feeling the heat from Alpa (which he repeatedly acknowledged on the town hall).
