Eastern had a much larger market share than Spirit does. Much larger. Using numbers of planes is a poor comparison. United has over 1,000 planes now and only 320 when it was the largest airline in the world in 1991.
You might as well just multiply 3 to Eastern and PanAm plane counts to make a fair comparison. Both Eastern and PanAm were much larger proportionate airlines.
