PMA contributions should be tiered on age, as life insurance is. A 25 year pilot should not pay the same rate as a 60 year old pilot, for obvious reasons. The system now has 25 year old pilots supplementing the 60 year old pilots PMA payments, and it’s failing because we have a lot of older pilots working the system.
Now they want or raise the premiums; watch it collapse like a house of cards when younger pilots stop contributing. IMO, their solution to solve the shortfall was the wrong one and will only exacerbate the shortfall.
It will hopefully keep it on life support while a more creative solution is manufactured.
