It's also not about "reading contracts" and "exploiting." It's supposed to help other pilots that otherwise may not be able to help themselves. Planning to go on LTD and maximizing your contractual benefit is completely different than tapping into a fund with finite resources that could cause benefits to cease for others so you can buy Stella instead of busch light while you recover from an elective surgery on your boat.
There wasn't much of a desire to "help other pilots" when this was the only group/union that wouldn't accept a minor temporary reduction in the line construction window to help pilots keep their jobs during a global pandemic. We can't be surprised by any of this/expect anything different.
