If you think that you shouldn't have anything to hide from the government then you are sorely naive and fail to understand the nature of governments. That being said straight crypto ownership is pretty transparent and traceable seeing as it's on a PUBLIC ledger so just buying BTC isn't really enough to hide anything from anyone.
