How expensive is it really? Don't we own the sims and already have the instructors on payroll? Aren't we paying the light bill for that SIM to sit idle anyways? I seriously want to understand because it makes no sense at surface level.
It's all the personnel costs associated with it. You have to pay the pilots what is effectively a monthly guarantee. Then pay the indoc instructors to not fly. Then you have to pull SLI back off the line to train them. That results in MORE GS to staff the flying. If they make it to OE, they have to pay a pilot to stay home and LCP pay.
