Very rarely do you see a passenger long haul airplane sitting around for a long time at an international outstation if there is no MX being done to it. It turns around and goes back to the hub.
I don't work for UPS or FDX but those planes can be seen sitting idly on cargo ramps noticeably more than pax planes internationally. Not that it's a waste of them, just a different schedule I suppose.
Domestically, I agree with you. I don't know,...we fly the bejesus out or 11's. I picked up a plane in HKG the other day that in the preceeding 24 hours had gone from; EWR-MEM, MEM-ANC, ANC-NRT, NRT-HKG. I was taking it back to ANC. There are no weekends or holidays in our international system anymore.
I sure miss the long layovers!
