JetBlue was under no obligation to buy you, but the guys who led Spirit were supposed to make money.

Trust me I have plenty of anger directed at Ted Christie, but Robin Hayes and B6 management drove the price up to box F9 out of the deal (a merger that likely would have been approved). Then RH openly sabotaged the deal in court, and dipped out a few days before the verdict was released. They knew exactly what they were doing.
You are correct in that NK management also failed, but you can't exactly pivot an entire business model during a merger.
Did you honestly not pay attention? It's okay if not, I get that it can be a lot to keep up with, but that is the cliff notes version of how it went down.
