We are manual laboring to a degree, but the professional part comes into play when we use judgement to avoid undesired circumstances, or when the chit hits the fan.

If a welder gets into a situation where he's not sure if he should cut into that structural piece, he's not going to use judgment, he's going to stop and ask his boss, who will call a civil engineer.

As I said, white collar is a bit of a misnomer for us, but Professional is not. Collar color doesn't matter, but professionalism does.
