Yeah, that ain’t happening…for both points. As guys get displaced from their bases, they will drop their trios and gobble up any remaining open time in their previous home base. They will justify it and say “I’m swapping, not picking up,” but clearing out open time just the same.
That being said, these furloughed pilots aren’t getting recalled. Let’s be real, and more furloughs are to come. This isn’t the same as a recession where all airlines are hurting and furloughing; this is different.
Any NK guys on here picking up open time? And swapping is still picking up open time. Just curious.
The short answer is “yes.” At first, it was to pad the pay check because the company could fold at any moment. “Gonna do what’s best for me and my family” were the words echoed.
Then it went from that to “oh.. I need more hours for the legacies” so picking up continued.
There’s a bit more to it than that (getting displaced so you drop and pick up in the base you were just displaced from), but that’s the basics.
This comes from multiple people who I personally know
