Dude. Spirit is burning the couches to keep the house warm. They are not going to be the parent entity in their own fire sale.
The $40/ hour pilot pay difference isn't even on the radar of the people trying to figure out what to do. They have a ton of leased aircraft just sitting around waiting on engine swaps costing them a half million a month per airframe.
It's a catastrophic bloodbath over there. They aren't going to pull off some crazy merger deal with the bloodbath company buying the successful one just to try to save a few bucks on expired pilot contracts.
