I'd be careful taking too much for granted the stability we've enjoyed in our lifetimes. We've been watching pretty interesting events, mostly from pretty comfortable seats.

Our grandfathers got to see some events too, but they were in ring, not the bleachers.
FDR and LBJ did it with congress. They did it by governing
.. I don't know enough to comment on Lincoln, but hemade his actions from the concepts of national good / tight and wrong.

There is absolutely no comparison between FDR. LBJ and the current guy. He does not govern, he rules. The man attempted to overturn the Republic, just to stay in power. This level of lawlessness he has been displaying is a direct continuation of his previous attempt. He views the government as his personal possession, rather than as belonging to the people.
Saying he has been "tame"compared to predecessors is absurd .

As to comments about Grandfather's in the ring.
In modern history, dating back to the 1400's, there had NEVER been an 80 year period without a war between what would be called the great powers.
Until now. 1945 to the present. This long periodof peace, the PAX-Americana happened due to the systems and institutions that DJT and his supporters are working to dismantle. Except the nukes will still be in place.
This can be labeled as ranging from profound stupidity to outright madness.

Their is nothing normal nor remotely precedented in this current Presidency.
Soviet styled Hero of the Revolution, or the Party banners hanging from a building tells us in a nutshell what has happened.
Don't defend it with false equivelencys.
