Regarding signing of the release....it has nothing to do with your competence....or concurrence. A release can always be revised. Before you go slamming everything about our culture, I would suggest you review your FOM.....Years ago in one of our Union Negotiations that some say "Sucks".....we were able to get a bright blue line established and that is in the FOM. If you're a Captain, it should have been emphasized in IOE....

If you really are the "too cool for school, I learned everything I needed to know in a previous life....and I care about my other crew members"....Then you should NEVER sign the release without getting "Eyes On" your FO, and anyone else on your crew. If you don't know why and you're a Captain, I'm tempted to say "Shame on you"......but I've also met a 767 Captain at the Company that didn't know where to find the list of things that could or could not be in the silhouette taxiing in. Perhaps in the short time here with rapid upgrades and trying to make as much Covid Cash as possible,...(.there is so much to learn) that some info drops through the cracks. Especially if you are contemptuous of the culture to begin with.

I'm breaking my long-time APC silence in hopes that someone may heed this and help someone out.

Please go read Appendix H of your FOM. Particularly Paragraph D. Conditional Termination and Paragraph E. Permanent Termination.

Perhaps you can learn from one of the "old guys" whom you probably refer to as a "sell-out" and think has nothing to offer you in terms of career perspective.

I'm on my way to visit a friend (Non-pilot) with a very grim prognosis. Life is too short to be unhappy. We are never guaranteed another day or another bite at the apple. If you're unhappy, stay or go....I really don't care...but too much stress over the long haul can lead to physical illness and in some cases substance problems....right now, he probably is not too worried about whether he wears a tie or not. Take care of yourself....in the end...do what you want...again, I don't care.....but as a Capt.....please don't be so self-important you don't take care of your fellow crew member.
