I’m sure we’ve all flown with people who, particularly in the sim, are way beyond their prime in handling the aircraft. It doesn’t require a psychologist to know that it’s time to take the keys away from some people. The only way to keep that in check is by a general age or changing the way we assess performance.
Maybe they got a bad nights rest. You don't know, and you're not trained to know what their effective cognitive level is or whether it's mental or from some other cause. Either way, cognitive ability can be affected my many many things, not just age related. Many of you here seem to gloss right over that.
