United doesn’t decide on domiciles based on pilots living there, but on flights per day. Apparently PHX and BOS are being looked at. They can’t add SAN as a co-domicile probably because it’d cost an arm and a leg for “crosstown pay” which is compensation for surface movement from the primary to the satellite field in distance/time which in this case would be LAX to SAN. Cheaper to overnight pilots from other bases in hotels in SAN
Yeah not enough UAL flights to support a stand-alone domicile and traffic makes SAN quite a bit further in reality from the LA basin than it looks on the map. Could be a five hour drive LAX-SAN at the wrong time on the wrong day. That's if the 5 doesn't blocked by an accident.
