Funny, I have heard nothing of the sort. People love to hate on California, but that one state generates more revenue than any other for this company. There is a reason SWA is fiercely protective of their turf there. LAX is what it is. People love to fly there despite it being an awful airport. 5 carriers run hubs there without any of them controlling the market. It isn't going to change.
SAN makes sense but operationally is a nightmare with 1 runway and delays associated with that. I think that’ll just be a mega station but would be a wildly popular base (for those who can afford to live there). Personally I hope it’s out of the running because I love SAN overnights. SMF would also make sense as a base maybe but they’d almost have to close OAK. Nobody likes OAK, even the people that live there. The only draw is that it’s in the Bay area.
If we’re serious about Europe stuff we’d prob need something in NE (or a bigger jet).
