Not really, if you look at second order effects. The fact that coverage awards are going out to the top half of the reserve seniority list in some categories compels more pilots to bid lines to get their guaranteed weekends off, and then many proceed to drop even lower. Which is fine and dandy, use your seniority where you see fit for your personal situation. It dumps more trips in open time for reserve pilots and drives some premium. But it's definitely not "free."
Regardless, we still have room for improvement on the senior NB reserve side. The contract survey will reveal if the pilot group wants to keep it this way, and accept that NB reserve should always have some suck built-in even if you're senior, or if we should negotiate for some more love towards reserve. I think everyone agrees senior reserve pilots being subject to coverage awards is a bum deal. Just a question of if we want to keep it this way or shift the chips around a bit.
WB reserve goes very senior and NB reserve trends junior. So there's no denying
some disparity exists on the NB side. But there are plenty who still love it.
