I actually had great luck with a Fusion, which was my last car. I foolishly let them sell me the extended warranty (third-party), so of course nothing broke on it! Until about four years later, after I had moved to a new town. One of the 4-way cursor buttons on the steering wheel broke, so I figured I'd better get something out of the warranty. My local dealer in my new town told me they called the warranty company, and they had no record of my VIN purchasing one!

So I called the original dealer (which was fortunately still in business), and he researched and discovered that they "forgot to buy the warranty" from the warranty company. Riiiiiiight. Further, the warranty company wouldn't sell them the policy I paid for! They asked if I wanted to explore "other warranty options." Uhhh... no. I was a little short with the dealer rep. I told them I want my funds returned immediately, and they fortunately did it with no hesitation.

So my $3300 warranty (ouch, I know) was refunded, and the total I spent on repairs in the 8 years I owned the car was under $1000, for that steering wheel button and a fuel pressure sensor. The warranty definitely wouldn't have paid off in my case. That Fusion was a fantastic car; I really liked it.
