Greenwashing is absolutely a pay-to-play move. Pay-to-play is pay to play, the methods just look different when the political majority is different. Greenwashing still funnels money into the political machine just like donating to an inauguration. You can try to argue the differences in semantics but at the end of the day it is the same.
If you really think investing in a new technology as part of a global effort to reduce carbon emissions is the same as directly donating to a party for a politician solely to stroke an ego, then we disagree on the mechanics of how things work.

One is a bribe, the other is a business strategy that happened to align with a trend of the day. I also don't remember any press conferences with CEOs for the sole purpose of flattering the president under the previous administration.
It is not the same merely because you proclaim it the same. It's not "semantics." These are the facts.
