This is going to create hundreds more FOs that Captains, and I don't know if this is because there is going to be lots of 737 FOs upgrading to WB as those bids start rolling out in the months ahead. If so, why not just cover them with future new hire classes unless they just need to fill training capacity.
It's not just the 737. Check the min/max and compare the 320 staffing. I expect some improvement come the December bid but they have definitely not been alluding to DCA 320 CA slots and there are about to be 140 DCA 320 FOs to under 100 DCA 320 CAs. The CRU states Dec vacancies for Houston and Chicago but that leaves DCA, EWR, SFO, and DEN weighted heavily to the FO side. I know the XLR will require more FOs than CAs in the long run on the east coast in DCA and EWR but we're at least a year and a half away from any of that flying actually coming to fruition. A little early to start fattening up on the FOs I would think.
