The difference in breadth and depth of experience between those 2 kinds of applicants is night and day, but there seems to be more and more reports of those 3k pilots getting interviews while the pilots with 100x the real world experience and proven safety records are told they didn't even make the cut to get an interview.

With that immense discrepancy between what they're saying and what's actually happening, you may as well base your decision on the miata issue. Or the color their house is painted. Or shoe size. Because it sure as hell isn't flying experience and qualifications.
Have you asked a member of the hiring team? I once asked about a buddy who had all the boxes checked and they said he didn't interview well. I assume they saw something I didn't.

I currently have a friend with tons of time, heavy intl experience, all the leadership stuff....TBNT email. Either he isn't telling me something or they are purposefully bypassing him. Guessing it is the former.

I think they do a good job hiring. The last wave got sketchy, especially towards the end, but that had more to do with the supply than the actual hiring. Hiring all old military guys (myself included) for a lot of years didn't do this company any favors. It's good to have a mix of backgrounds and experience levels.
