There appears to be a tendency among pilots to believe that because we have several type ratings and/or some thousands of hours of flight time, we must be not only aviation experts, but experts in a whole bunch of other stuff. Among said "other stuff," at least in my experience, the most frequently seen are things like guns, cars, and finance, the latter usually focused on real estate, but sometimes closer to what you describe. The message from such "experts" has changed little to none in my 19 years in the industry, it's usually a mix of Ron Paul and [insert your favorite conservative talking head here] talking points, to the effect "dollar is collapsing, we need to run for the hills, make sure you have gold in your portfolio (more recently this last one has been replaced by crypto), the end is near etc. etc." I'm sure it happens in other professions, too, but it seems aviators are especially shameless about it.
Interestingly enough, it seems to be the same "financial savants" who are advocating for age 67, so they can make up for "what they lost."
