Not sure about UA, at AA you would be retire at around 700 if you went there instead of Dela last year. If you got hired today at AA at 34 you would be right on the border of triple digets. Delta hires from different ages all the time. They don’t like it to be consistent.
Every airline has their “influencers”, like your CA Steve. Or Pilot Pete that left Delta for UAL. At the end of the day, no one cares about those people and they had to go through the same interview as everyone else.
So let’s talk about real numbers, not throwing crap for whatever hurt your feelings.
Also 34 is not young for legacy pilot. A 20yr military pilot will be close to their 40s. Young in a legacy would be 30 or under.
You also have to account for all the hiring made after Covid
