Preach. Duty pilot could literally just be some kind of low-paid admin. They're just another wall for you to get through before you actually get to someone with some kind of decision making authority.
I've found I have a much better track record when I tell the Duty Pilot what I'm doing, as opposed to asking for guidance.
No: "hey, I'm not sure about taking this jet, what do you think"
Yes: "I am calling to inform you that in my best judgement, I believe this aircraft is not airworthy and I will NOT be taking it"
