Yeah, but you don't need a duty pilot for those situations. That's pretty cut and dry. I just feel like they're useless akin to a glorified switchboard operator.
Also, I keep flying with guys who tell me stories about refusing aircraft constantly. I've been here a decade and only refused an aircraft one time (inop APU into FL) and received 0 pushback from the dispatcher. I've never gotten pushback on asking for more gas either. Idk where all these supposedly combative dispatchers live, maybe I've successfully avoided them?
Very similar scenario. Only ever refused one plane ever and it was here (clapped out 320 in FL, coincidentally). Also got zero pushback. Duty pilot was more concerned with letting me know he was NOT questioning my decision, just asking questions for the narrative of a report he was filing for it.
I've maybe asked for gas once. They seem to never short me, thankfully.
