In the established mainstrean news reporting there have been failures and instances of rogue behavior. In general they have done a pretty good job.
At least since the Viet Nam war there has been a steady, focused campaign to undermine the publics trust in journalism. Like much of the disinformation industry it has been quite successful.
It has been so successful that purveyors of disinformation have higher trust numbers than honest brokers.
Millions, if not billions, live in a world where they think what they believe because " they did their own research", or were " just asking questions" is good enough to understand truly complicated issues.
Mass delusion has been put by at least one institute as being in the top 10 existential threats to9th civilization.
That is almost certainly true.
My statement was that public faith in journalism has been on a long downhill slide. The statement is ACCURATE.
