vacancies awarded first. If enough Captains voluntarily bid out of the base that is being reduced, it fulfills a reduction requirement and spot isn’t backfilled.
And I’m pretty sure the following is correct…
You could even have Capt awards INTO a base being reduced. Say LA publishes 30 CA reductions. But 35 senior LA Captains voluntarily bid out to SAN and SEA. This example would satisfy all 30 reductions and have 5 proffer positions into LAX CA.
This is correct.
With SFO having a high commuter percentage with senior CAs, I see a lot of them taking SAN. Hell, several live there. Everyone in PHX who can hold it will probably take it, as there is more frequency to SAN than SFO. I think the flying will be better out of SAN too, so if you already commute, it might make sense just to commute to SAN. DM is out of his mind if he thinks everyone will just live there lol. Good to see the dinosaurs still not understanding how the airlines work...SAN will be another high commuter base, and I bet we have the same FO issues there that we do in SFO. It's another hyper-expensive base, and AS will continue to ONLY interview people who live in Gig Harbor, just to push them into SAN as a new hire. His statement inside that email was demoralizing and depressing. They will say and do anything except properly staffing the airline and fixing the real issues.
I actually think this will result in minimal pain on the CA side. I hate seeing two bases reduced, but I don't think we see a bunch of forced downgrades.
