Plus, it’s (mostly) cheap for the company. In cases where it’s pay and credit, it only costs them money if you get full. Otherwise, it would just help the pilot into a higher RAW bucket.
Regardless, it’s BS that Reg is protected and Res is not. I’ve lost several Res GS that would have paid single pay if Reg. AND Res only gets A day pay or 2 hours (whichever is less) for illegal rotations. Making it cheap for the company to knowingly screw a Res with an illegal assignment (fly now/grieve later) for as little as 2 hours of pay.
