Cost was always the reason, but it falls apart with scrutiny.

The MAX is 4 years delayed, and Alaska is now forced to cannibalize its own network to expand into new markets.

How much will it cost in burned bridges and lost loyalty? How much will it cost to lose presence in markets in major cities on both coasts?

These go beyond numbers on a spreadsheet, but I'm certain these factors exceed the cost delta of having a dual fleet.
