I posted that sad tale above because that exact thing happens at UA. I would even put in a JS request 5-7 days earlier to broadcast my intent, and the same Dbags would show up 30 mins prior to bump me at their convenience.
I once got bumped out of the JS while trying to commute home on the last flight of the night. Nobody else was listed, so Iwas in the actual. We were ready to close and the gate agent came down with paperwork. Then I heard another voice: "sorry man, I need the jump." Turn around to discover a WBCA standing there. "When did you list?!?!" I stammered. "About one minute ago," he replied.
The CA of the flight, to his great credit, gave the WB guy a ****ed off look and then turned to me. "As far as I'm concerned, the jumpseat is yours," and turns to the now-red-faced WBCA. "Captain, next time, you might want to list more than a minute before the door closes."
I was still on probation, so I thanked the CA , grabbed my bag, and told the WBCA "it's all yours...
Captain." Spent the night in a hotel.
We really need some kind of cutoff at UAL for JS listing. 30 minutes prior to push, perhaps ? Not one minute, as is the current policy. These super senior guys pull this nonsense frequently
