Was turning 50 so wanted to get some preventative stuff done for the year. Did annual bloodwork and had been fighting high cholesterol like all my family tree for a long time. Practitioner felt I needed to get a cardiac calcium score test done—well results showed a score where FAA gets involved (above 400) and they don’t care about any subsequent test except for a catherization. We scheduled it through my cardiologist AME and they found it and fixed it. One stent only (but Feds require a second catherization to double check at six months later).

Just got my medical back with special issuance, and as long as my stuff remains the same it’s only paperwork, no further tests and normal FAA protocol every six months for my seat (with a yearly form submission).

That being said I’m on a statin and platelet regimen (cholesterol numbers are in half and LDL is below 70) with no adverse effects.

Note—I had ZERO symptoms outside of what I thought was normal with normal EKG and clear heart ultrasound but had a family history of bypass and stroke related stuff so I wanted to be proactive.

The current WN situation with LOL, STD, LTD, MCBP, and some sick time made this a no-brainer. I’m glad I did it—get your s*#t checked and get it done. Your life is more important than flying.
