There are actually several good strategic reasons to either acquire Greenland, or ink some kind of long-term arrangement to allow the US essentially unlimited access for military purposes. Mostly having to do with countering/containing RU. It's strategic potential vastly outweighs the impact on it's tiny population which wouldn't even amount to a small city in the US. We might get their cooperation by simply paying them all bonuses if it comes to that.

The way this has been broached is typical uncivil hyperbole, but the actual concept isn't unreasonable nor is it the first time the US has considered this. Why now again? Melting ice and opening northern sea lanes.
