It is possible to make a material where you can turn on a tint rapidly, this is being used in new airplanes for pax windows to replace the window shades. I like the predator idea...

For a while now there have been welding masks that darken at the first spark. The do proteck the wearer; however, I am not sure they would be suited to flying.
