Why say this? He’s right. It sucks that the normal paradigm has changed unexpectedly. It sucks to lose money that was typically there under fair conditions.

Saying that a trip went to someone two decades junior to him isn’t blaming the junior person as the cause; it is lamenting the fact that patiently-earned seniority no longer carries weight.

All of that is valid.
