Seat position at the time of a merger is irrelevant. Seniority lists are stove piped placing each pilot in the highest paying seat position they can hold. The stove piped list is what the merged list will be produced from. This prevents leap frogging which is a basic tenant of merging lists.
I currently hold a seat that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to hold. Many of us are in this position. So the stovepipe would take me out of my current seat because I wouldn’t be able to hold it? Weird.
