Not really, folks have been working in western boots since before the airplane. They come with a coating on them that can be slick, but if you walk much that comes off in a half mile or so.
I’ve also not had a foot sweat issue, not sure if that’s medical or bad boots?
Personally I find the leather sole great for rudder work.
Also looks wise it beats the salesman/officeboy look of the orthopedic looking shoes I see many wearing
The other benefit is you can have them re soled for not much.
Yeah they'll definitely last a long time. They look great with the right pants. When I was at OO, a lot of guys west of DEN would wear boots too wide for their slim fit pants and they'd looked ridiculous. I think Tecovas makes some low cut boots I've seen some FOs wear that pair great with less baggy pants
