I read it as they are interested in mergers, just not with UA. They wouldn't have said "a combination with United would be negative for competition and for consumers" if they had any interest in merging with UA. They didn't have to say that but they did. That's poisoning the well. Now anyone who would object to a proposed UA-AA merger doesn't have to prove anything, they have it straight from AA's mouth.
