We have got to stop eroding seniority. The only thing to do with the language, in my eyes, is make it more expensive for the company and maybe force them into a different staffing model. On the staffing model front, SWAPA has been talking about scope lately, and one of the things they brought up is how the legacys use block hours for their stafffing model for wide bodies. This is how it should be done. If it were done this way, DEN wouldn't have shrank a fraction of what it did.

TLDR version, stop going after your fellow pilots and go after the company for the language.
Staffing based on RON’s is stupid. Should be based on block hours or flights per day out of the base. Absolutely no reason other than sheer stupidity that a LAS guy is doing DEN turns…it’s more expensive paying for a hotel for 3 nights than having someone sleep in their own bed.

Want to fix displacements? Make it cost so much that they won’t consider doing it unless you have a Covid level event. TDY lines - mandatory and voluntary only. Hotels for the month paid, pos space commutes when you come/go and 24/7 per diem….it’d be more sr than the RE lines.

if that doesn’t fix it, then displacement in inverse seniority order. They get 100% paid hotels with a $500/ni limit (not my fault it’s UFC night in LAS) or the company can block off rooms at a union approved hotel for displaced folks. This would not expire….it stops when they get back home. Add to this…must ride commutes as long as they’re displaced in category and class of seating = to that given to DHD pilots.

ROR applies to all vacancies. No more of this secondary BS. If 10 people bid out, the next 10 in are displaced. Once everyone has 1 shot back in, you revert back to system seniority. (If you change your #1 spot from your displaced base for VA bidding or summer because your schedule is better in AUS, then you wait to get back to DEN or wherever.).

I don’t fault anyone for bidding what they want and getting what the CBA allows. A 55xxx guy getting to DEN for his summer home shouldn’t be prioritized over someone forced out involuntarily. He made a voluntary choice to go to MCO or PHX for the winter knowing full well what was going on with staffing reductions….a alternative to fix this could be a global base trade…similar to RAPPUL.

if you want to move, you’d put your pref in. Most sr 2 get to trade bases. This can be run for 1-2 days after the vacancy protest period.

I’d also stipulate that there are NO vacancy bids during periods where there are NO bodies entering the bid. Shuffling deck chairs needs to stop. If this company can’t plan ahead more than 2-3 months at a time, they deserve to pay all the VDT that arises from it.

Finally, IDC if you’re sick of hearing about it. As long as hundreds of pilots are forced to commute…you’ll hear about it. I doubt the 1221 cared that people were tired of listening to them complain about the WARN notices after a month. This is the biggest thing going on that’s affecting people’s seniority right now…we start negotiating in about a year. Deal with it.
