I honestly think the only reason this is being discussed is to spur on a private buyer of the airline. Nothing gets buyers moving like a threat that someone else might come in and snatch it away. If someone does, I think the administration green-lights it, and the deal gets done quickly. Who would those potential buyers be? That's a great question. If it does end up being the admin dumping $500 million into them, well, I won't love it, but I will choose to see it as buying time for the 14,000 employees there to find other employment.
