It's hard to pinpoint it honestly. Because what I've always said before is that the company (management as a whole) has wanted a contract settled. To say they didn't was always disingenuous to me. But here's the catch, as you know I'm sure; they wanted us to accept as much as possible under their terms. That's where we needed serious and highly experienced negotiators; not to mention leadership. Now that I believe we have that, the dynamics have changed. There appear to be some on the company's side that were trying to get us to take a legit poison pill. I think their "agenda" behind it was bc they probably will get some sort of high monetary reward to seal the deal. Other managers appeared to not be happy with the hard turn and rug pull some did a few weeks ago. GA, appears to be possibly responsible for "intervening" and rectifying what was done a few weeks ago.
It's the board (company) that appears to be "concerned" with putting out something that could increase costs with possible future uncertainties. When the price of oil went up a few weeks ago, some board members wanted to delay any sort of deal (allegedly). Luckily with the current union leadership and NC, they have been able to bring calm, and keep the company at the table. The fact that the company has responded to the union requests in recent times in a reasonable manner says to me, that as long as outside factors don't escallate things, a deal could be reached.
But you're right, they could, possibly completely walk off the table. Hell they could sign an AIP this week, and then delay a full TA completely at the last second. We have to be ready for anything honestly. All we can do at this point is keep our fingers crossed, and support the representation which has been working some miracles behind the scenes. It's absolutely understandable to feel pessimistic right now, with so much this pilot group has endured for the past 4 to 5 years. People are resigning; not in massive waves like many kept saying, and with Spirit pilots on the street now, they'll be able to fill many of the seats at the legacies. How much will that affect us here (resignations) remains to be seen. It behooves the company to get the bonus of their hands, and the only way is through a TA. So I personally think they're gonna try to reach one... hopefully they don't throw in any last second poison pills. Fingers crossed.
