Yeah, that’s not true. It all depends on the arbitration. Both sides will put forth their dream sheets and the arbitrator will decide based on a host of criteria. Acquiring carrier status means very little. Even the vaunted “career expectations” takes a backseat to class and status. You are in a very similar class and status merger, I would expect to see a straight ratio for the merge.

It would be better if both sides were ALPA since ALPA merger policy lays out straightforward guidelines for the merger. Having two different unions, one with a questionable track record, will open the possibilities a lot further to see some wild proposals from either side. But the arbitrator will be experienced and will end up discarding the more extreme positions.

Remember, a merger is successful when both sides are ****ed off. 😉
