Like most people, I root for my favorite team, even if I know the facts are that they are outgunned and/or have falling way behind. And while facts are facts, funny things can and do happen. Sometimes the other team misses a “cinch” field goal. Sometimes truly bizarre things happen, like everyone ignoring what they think is a dead ball and the game changing drastically when someone just scoops up the ball to hand it back to the ref:

There is no denying how hard the Ukrainians are fighting and what they have done so far despite the odds against them. And there is nothing wrong with hoping that they will prevail despite the odds against them. But it would be foolish to deny the reality of the factors against them, or that when this all gets settled, they are STILL going to share a long border with Russia.
