First of all, no, it’s not true. A job’s worth is not quantified only by compensation. There are quite a few more variables. Quality of life, schedules, accrued vacation, living in base vs commuting…etc
Second, the “embarrassing” part says a lot more about who you are than it does about the pilots who chose to work at F9.
