Getting a guard/reserve pilot slot is not as easy as some folks make it out to be. So, think hard about what you actually want to do.

And, military service is not incompatible with married life. Nor are the current operations in Iraq/Afgan an indication of a deathwish. How many fixed wing guys have you heard of crashing in combat ops?

And, very, very few military guys are at the very tip of the spear. Maybe 1 in 4 are shooters, the rest are supporting the war effort in different ways. (Can't kick *** w/out tanker gas) Only the most rabid peacenik should avoid mil svc, and what I mean is the kind of person who believes that there is no rational reason to take human life (not that there's anything wrong with that.....well, nothing other than you are voting yourself out of the Darwinian gene pool, but I'm okay with YOU making that as your personal choice)

Unlike every other historical power, the US goes to war with only the best of intentions. The only nation building the Soviets did was for themselves. WE don't want to rule the world. We just want the world to be safe to visit. Leave us alone, and we'll leave you alone. Hell, most americans can't even find Alaska on a map let alone locate a bunch of countries we can't even pronounce.
