If you are going to college to get a degree coming out of high school I would say get a business degree in management. It will be very beneficial. If you have to get a 4 year degree later in life because you just have to, get whatever is cheapest. Basket weaving is nice and easy.

For me, since I am 28 and want to get into aviation as quickly as possible, it's about what will be the cheapest and quickest. At this point it is the Emby-Riddle Distance Learning is the quickest and cheapest. Right out of the gate I will only need 78 credits to graduate. (34 for flight ratings+ 10 for college transfer credit) At $185 an hour that comes out to $14k plus books. Now I couldn't even make it 1 year at the last school I went to for that amount. Now granted I am not paying for room and board and actually flight training but I am going to ATP for that.

Now I guess I have have an advantage against other people getting in or already in the industry because:
- I have a trade (IT and I am damn good) that I will continue to do while I am flying
-I'm debt free, have lots of money in the bank.
-I have no family to take care of, yet.
-I'm am a very good money manager.
-Don't plan on flying till I am 60.
-I have failed a lot already in my life.
-I have no family to bail me out.
-I need a challenge.
